Do you know your skin tone?

Colour is the best weapon when it comes to fashion.
A flattering shade can give your skin and appearance a healthy glow.

Your complexion and colouring determines which colours work best on you.
Take careful note of your skin tone, natural hair colour and eye colour.
To help you find the undertone colour of your skin, look at the inside of your arm in natural daylight.
Decide which season most accurately describes your complexion. Once you know your season, you will have a personalised guideline of colours and shades that work best for you.

Knowing what you are looking for is half the battle, you can branch out and create a great new wardrobe where everything looks fabulous on!

Winter: (also known as deep complexions) have blue or pink undertones. Skin can be pale and porcelain white, yellowish-olive, or dark. Winter people are generally brunettes, with deeply coloured eyes.

Those with the winter colour profile have a lot of depth to their colouring and a lot of contrast between their hair colour, eye colour and skin tone. Winters should wear colours that are sharp, stark and clear. White, black, navy blue, red and shocking pink all go well with winter complexions. For lighter colours, wear icy tones rather than pastels. Avoid earthy tones and subdued colours like beige, orange and gold.

Summer: (also known as cool complexions) like winter have blue or pink undertones. Skin is pale and pink. Summers are often natural blondes or brunettes with pale eyes.

Summers have a low level contrast between their hair, eye colour and skin tone. Summers should choose pastels and soft neutrals with rose and blue undertones. Lavender, plum, rose-brown and soft blue suit summers well while black and orange do not. Avoid intense, vivid hues because they will look harsh and drown you out.

If you are trying to discriminate between winter and summer, winters are usually brunette and summer are mostly natural blondes.

Autumn: (also known as warm complexions) have golden undertones. Many redheads and brunettes with golden brown eyes fall into this category.

Autumns you have a lot of depth to your colouring and skin tone. You should select colours with golden undertones, like camel, beige, organge, gold and dark brown which will accentuate your complexion. Stay clear from bright colours and black and white, which will make your look tired and faded. Also avoid colours with blue tones, like navy which will look cold against your complexion and give you a pale appearance.

Spring: (also known as light complexions) have golden undertones and are usually creamy white or peach. Spring people generally have strawberry red hair, freckle, rosy cheeks and blue or green eyes.

Spring can wear pale soft colours like camel, peach, golden yellow and golden brown. Your colours may be particularly hard to find because they can never be too muted or too dark. Avoid black or white which are too contrasting for you. Also avoid dark, dull colours

Wearing Black – even through black is often slimming and flattering, not everyone can pull if off. Black can be overwhelming for some skin tones especially when it’s worn close to the face. Winter/deep and Autumn/warm toned individuals can carry if off very well but Spring/light and Summer/cool types should try to avoid wearing too much black, especially near the face.

Wearing red – reds tend to suit Autumn and winter tones more than sprind and summer tones, but that doesn’t mean that the paler skin tones cannot wear red at all.  It’s all down to the tone of red. Try testing a few shades of red against your skin to see if it’s right for you. You will know the moment you put it against your skin. A wrong shade will clash immediately and the right one will look like you were born to wear it.
If you can’t decide if you are an autumn or a spring, springs tend to have pale eyes while autumns have dark eyes.

How to find the perfect swimwear for your figure

Here at Cherry Blossom Fashion Blog we know that everyone has a different shape, not everyone is the size of a model. That is why we are loving the new season fashion trends for swimwear as the styles cater to the female natural figure.

We also know that swimwear shopping is a daunting task. Armed with a few tips and tricks we can make it less of a task and more of a fun outing.

Before you go out to the store learn your body shape so you can get an idea of what you need to look for in new swim wear and what to avoid. Embrace your figure, as I know many women myself included always pick out the things we hate about our figure BUT instead of thinking negatively change it to positive thinking look at what you love about your figure and what you want to accentuate.

Keep the following in mind when you next go swimwear shopping

Rectangle Body Shape
Features: Narrow shoulders, small bust, waist is less defined, slender hips
Goal: To create the illusion of curves
How:  Ruffles! Use ruffles to your full advantage, they add volume to the top half by making the bust seem visually larger. You can also use vintage cupped styles with padding to create curves. To Define your waistline wear low leg style briefs or hipsters with trims or ties to accentuate the width of your hips. Wearing tops with wide straps broaden your shoulders and minimise your waist. Also check out the crochet bikinis and swimwear worn right these can show off your figure, and are very eye catching.

Pear Body Shape
Features: Narrow shoulders, small bust, long waist, full bottom, wide curved hips, full thighs
Goal: To balance out, emphasising your top half and drawing the attention away from your hips.
How: Ruffles also work for the Pear Body Shape creating the illusion of a larger bust as well as padding. Have fun with this seasons colours by wearing a darker colour on your bottom half to minimise the hip area then wear a bright attractive colour and accessorise on your top half, accessories such as beads, ruffles and buckles.

Hourglass Body Shape
Features: Narrow shoulders, full bust, well defined waist, narrow hips, slender thighs
Goal: To show off your feminine curves
How: Since we are trying to accentuate the hips instead of the bust, use ruffles on the bottoms half to balance your hips with your bust. Skirtinins are a great little option. For ultimate lift and support use push up tops with underwire and cups to enhance your bust if you are wearing your bikini for long periods of time thicker straps offer great support. To draw attention check out this season’s prints and embellishments on both top and bottom. Any type of leg cut or neckline will suit you and go for the attractive colours. Avoid large garments to accentuate your body shape by wearing tight-fitting swimwear also avoid unstructured crochets or string bikinis if they don’t offer any support; instead stick to structure styles and halternecks. Flaunt it!

Cone Body Shape
Features: Broad shoulders, medium to full bust, less defined waist, flat belly, narrow hips, slim thighs.
Goal: To focus on the hips and legs to balance proportions
How:  Look out for a swimsuit or bikini that accentuates the waist. Get this by buying low leg styles for briefs, like boy legs and hot pants to broaden the hips, wear top with thin over the shoulder straps or high cut neckline which draw attention to the hips, use accessories on the hip: like belt, strings, beads, bows, rings, buckles, or ruffles. You can create the illusion of an hourglass figure by wearing a high cut one piece swimsuit. Check out the vintage inspired tankinis!!

Diamond Body Shape
Features: Narrow shoulders, full bust, not defined waist, full belly, broad hips
Goal: To emphasise on the chest, drawing the attention away from the belly
How: look out for swimwear with V-necklines that enhance your bust area, contrast neckline binding and neckline embellishments to draw attention upwards, solid colours on a neutral dark background, stay clear of the busy prints and colours. You can also wear a long tankini tops or one piece bathing suit with over the shoulder straps. Check out the vintage trend and embrace it, use it to accentuate rather than try hide your curves. Curves are a woman best asset so flaunt it. Try halternecks or cupped styles, and anything that brings in the waist to play to an hourglass shape.

Other things to consider

Short legs
To lengthen your body pair a printed bikini top with a block-coloured bottom, drawing the attention upwards. Avoid boy-legs and go for high cut thighs instead so as to not shorten the legs further.

Athletic figures
If you are not big on the curves make the most of styles like statement strapping, backless styles and crochet that instead show off a toned physique.
